Shippensburg 2010 Documentation Status

As of Monday, July 5, several teams are in jeopardy of not participating in Nationals. Below is a status of the documentation that has been submitted. If you have not submitted your documentation, we need you to do so ASAP. If you are not going to Nationals, you need to let me know ASAP as well. We counted on every athlete participating unless indicated otherwise early in the year. This is a major tournament and requires full rosters. Thanks!

Documentation Required - Copy of birth certificate, photo ID or a recent picture, copy of current year report card. All three are required. If you cannot provide one of these items, please let me know ASAP. The following is the status:

Update: Hershey Park Ticket Status - Tickets In

Hershey Park tickets are in. I will plan on distributing to those who have paid for them at this evenings meeting. If you have not yet paid for the tickets, you can bring in a check to the meeting or to practice this week. Thanks.

I have placed both orders as indicated below. If you have not done so, please get me a check for the tickets in the next few days so that I can pay off my credit card! Thanks!

Last call for ticket orders is this Thursday. Although you will still be able to get discounted tickets, the price will increase after this Thursday. Please let me know ASAP if you want tickets.

Tickets for Hershey Park are available for anyone interested in going any day. The regular rate is $52.95 per person vs the discounted rate of $33.00 per ticket. In order to get the discount, I need to purchase the tickets in advance. We will coordinate the sales and distributions for you. If you are interested in going to the Park, please let me know and bring a check to practice for the exact amount (number of tickets you want x $33.00 or whatever the rate is) made out to Edge Athletics Club. Below are the details for the ticket rates:

Regular admission (ages 9-54) - $52.95 - Discounted rate is $33.00
Junior and Senior tickets (ages 3-8 and 55-69) - $31.95 - Discounted rate is $24.50
70 years and older - $20.95 - Discounted rate is $19.95

Tickets purchased can be used on ANY day of the summer. THERE IS NO DATE ON THE TICKET, so as long as you buy the tickets as part of our group, you can use them anytime!

15 East Comes Up a Little Bit Short

At the end of the weekend the 15 East team ended up with a 1-3 record, but played very competitive. We played our first game very close especially down 20-10 at halftime and coming back to cut the lead to as little as 3 and eventually would fall in a defensive battle. I was very impressed with the effort and the fight shown in the first game. Something changed for us though in the second game. We came out flat and just got run off the floor. We were down 13 at half and eventually fell by 20.

New day means a new start and thats exactly the way they approached the game. With Coach Moore at the helm, the East team was able to pick up a tough win in a 49-43 game. Nothing like having to play again right away though. Being in the consolation bracket we had a team from another bracket waiting for us right after. Playing them very well in the first half, the ran off a 10-0 run to create another halftime deficit. Yet again though we came fighting back and cut the lead to one with under a minute. We would fall 44-43.

The theme of the weekend was pretty simple………FINISH……… We needed to finish around the basket in the first game and from the free throw line in the last game. This team plays pretty good defense, but we need better shot selection and better exectution on the offensive end. Let’s keep our head up and keep fighting.

15 East Takes Home Championship!

Well I guess it doesn’t get any better than that……. The 15 East went 3-1 over the weekend including a very impressive win over the 15 West (Please see the News article related to that game). One word to me describes the weekend…….. DEFENSE……… and thats exactly what we played the whole weekend. Allowing no more than 45 points (only loss) and allowing as little as 35 points was the key to the weekend. We held teams to an average of 41 points per game. What impressed me the most when I sit back and actually think about it, is that we won every which way.

First game we were down a little early, took a small lead, and then eventually won by 17 points. So we had the killer instinct in that game defeating a smaller, very quick, Westchester Hawks team 58-41.

We then took the floor a few hours later and played a very tough, much bigger, Long Island Lightning team which took a 3-0 lead. Two quick baskets and we took the lead back and never looked back. We had a comfortable 6-10 point lead throughout the game and when they made their final push with under a minute to go we were able to hold them off and win 39-35.

Day two started out with Coach Santoro taking the team for the first half and building up a nice four point cushion with about 11 minutes to go. This was Sound Shore team that we had seen play the day before and watched our West team handle them pretty easily, which I think lead to us not being as sharp as we were. We missed layups and free throws down the stretch and they seemed to make everything as we would fall 45-41.

Now the championship game started a few hours later. We got down early and trailed most of the game. To be able to take the lead with about 4 minutes to go was really special because the kids got stops on the defensive end and made good decisions with the basketball down the stretch, but most importantly, we made shots. Our stops on the defensive end lead to the confidence to be able to knock down shots near the end. I tip my cap to the West who played extremely hard the whole game.

Like I said before, I couldn’t be more happier for the boys because majority of them played last year, whether on my team or Coach Moore’s, and we didn’t have a lot of success. But with addition of new faces and new places for both teams we can really see how our program has grown and we are competing in ever game. It’s pretty impressive to have one team in a championship, but to have both teams makes it very special. Good luck to both teams in the future. As for my team, enjoy it now, and some of you might never forget it, but be ready to go back to work on Thursday.
