Vassar Basketball Camp – Spots Still Open!

Vassar Boy’s Basketball July 20-July 24 (day) boys ages 7-15. Cost $260

Established in 1998, the Vassar Basketball Camps provide the opportunity for participants of any skill level to learn and practice the fundamentals of basketball (court awareness, dribbling, passing, rebounding, defense, footwork, and shooting techniques). An integral part of the camp experience is the cultivation of sportsmanship and individual mental skills. Strategic thinking and the exercise of initiative on the court are taught, developed, and implemented through drills, competitive games, and shooting contests. Camp features such as demonstrations, free-play, and an all-you-can-eat lunch ensure a balanced atmosphere for learning in a structured and fun environment. Each camper receives a Vassar t-shirt and certificate of participation. Achievement awards are presented to outstanding participants. BJ Dunne, Vassar’s head men’s basketball coach, directs the camp. His staff will consist of other college coaches and qualified college-level players who will provide individual attention to all participants, and a certified athletic trainer.

About the Camp

A low camper-to-counselor ratio ensures that participants have the opportunity to reach their full potential. The themes we stress are teamwork, creating a safe learning environment for all campers, accountability, sportsmanship, and that eachboy “be the best camper” he can be. The morning session focuses on individual and team instruction in fundamentals. Campers practice in smaller learning groups or game situations. The afternoon session begins with either a mini-lecture or competitions addressing a particular skill, such as shooting, individual defense, or a team concept. We focus on these fundamentals to reinforce the skill development of each camper and to raise the level of each player’s game.

Camp Objectives

  • Improve basic game skills: shooting, dribbling, rebounding, and passing
  • Improve offensive and defensive positional play
  • Improve overall fitness
  • Offer continual coaching during instructional and game situations
  • Learn basic strategies and rules of basketball
  • Emphasize teamwork and fair play
  • Learn more about basketball while enjoying the game

The goal of the Boys Basketball Camp is to improve the level of play of each camper and provide him with a rewarding and fun camp experience while learning the fundamentals of basketball and making new friends.
